Hello again,
Over the end of last week and over the weekend, I survived five days of a barely functional, to completely non functional, computer and learned more about computer function, and how to muddle through somewhat with only my iPhone for internet access, than I ever hoped to know.
For normal folks with great vision and especially for the youngsters among us, this would not be such a noteworthy feat. Being visually challenged though, it was quite a praiseworthy accomplishment. You see, on my computer I can enlarge things however much I might need to do so in order to see them sufficiently.
Okay, it put me a little off my game having to spent money I really didn't expect, just at this time of year, in order to try to get my computer up and running again. Normally, I do most of my Christmas shopping online, and way before December.
This year, however, (suddenly disabled in the spring and then being “cut loose” after exhausting all FMLA) having had absolutely no income in the months of October, November, and half of December, and then a handful of days with no computer access to speak of, I find myself at Christmas week paring down my typical expectations of this season of giving. In some ways it is quite freeing as it forces me to focus on the simplest pleasures and the real meaning behind the winter season celebrations of Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, and Christmas.
More importantly for me in this moment though, the lesson I found hereĀ is to never, EVER, give up. I missed being able to get back to my blog, or to get on social media, or decide on another next step in my business. I'm proud of the courage I showed to keep going and keep plowing ahead, regardless of the obstacles that were obstructing my way forward. I made some decisions and perhaps some mistakes, but kept moving forward toward my goal, however difficult it may have appeared in the given moment.
So, I encourage you from the place of peace in which I find myself on this longest night and shortest day for us here in the Northern Hemisphere. If you are here in the north, happy Winter Solstice. For our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, happy Summer Solstice. Celebrate the mystery of the nights and the beauty of the stars here in the wintery months in the Northern Hemisphere and in the far north, the Aurora Borealis. In the Southern Hemisphere, celebrate the fullness of the days.
Celebrate the gift of life and the strength of your beating heart! Give to others from that place of gratitude within yourself. And never, EVER, give up. Hold on to your precious dreams. Don't give up on them.
I will persist until I succeed! I will never, ever, give up and I hope that you will not ever give up either.
Happy Solstice to all of you, wherever you are on this big, beautiful world of ours.
Gratefully,
Katie Munch
